Civilian killed as shelling returns along LoC in Kupwara

Kupwara: A civilian was killed along Line of Control in north Kashmir’s Kupwara on Monday after India and Pakistan troops exchanged fires and mortar shells.
The slain was identified as Mohammad Saleem son of Alim Din, a resident of village Tar in Karnah.
Station House Officer (SHO) Tangdar police station Wasim Ahmad confirmed the death of the civilian.
In the morning, firing and mortar shelling started along the LoC in Karnah village and continued till afternoon. It caused massive fear and prompted people to stay indoors.
The sound of blasts rattled villagers resulting in closure of shops and Tangdar market as people escaped to safety.
The SHO police acknowledged that firing occurred along the LoC but said there was no loss to property.
Locals said that guns fell silent two months ago after heavy firing and shelling returned in Uri on December 26. But Monday’s firing again raised fears of safety for villagers living along the mountainous LoC.
