Nine injured in grenade attack at Lalchowk

Attack aimed to disrupt normalcy: IG CRPF

SRINAGAR: Nine people including seven civilians and two CRPF troopers were injured at Pratap Park in city centre Lalchowk, when unidentified men lobbed a grenade on Sunday.
All the injured are said to be in stable condition and many sent home after preliminary medical attention.
Eyewitness said that the grenade was lobbed at 12.30 pm, inside the park when people who had come from various parts of the Valley were busy in shopping at flea market that operates Sunday.
“It was noon and was busy with customers at my makeshift stall, when I heard a loud bang ,” said Rafiq Ahmad.
Adding that I moved for safety without looking for what had happened.
All the injured including the CRPF men were rushed to city’s SMHS hospital where they were treated,
Three of injured have been discharged said the doctors at the hospital.The CRPF men had splinter injures, but stable.
“All the injured are stable, including the CRPF men and are recovering,” said a doctor a SHMS hospital wishing anonymity.
This is second attack in the city this year after unknown gunmen had lobbed grenade at Habak area on the outskirts of the Srinagar.
Soon after the attack many additional troops arrived at the spot. They cordoned the area and frisked the pedestrians.
Even though the blast created panic the Sunday market routine got resumed once the park was sanitized by the forces.
Inspector General of Central Reserve Police Force Ravideep Singh Sahi said that the attack was aimed at impacting the normalcy that has been returning in the Valley.
“This is nothing extra-ordinary, but you know today is Sunday market and they have taken advantage of that. Both our injured men are recovering and both are safe,” he added.
