Accused driver arrested, says police

SRINAGAR: Hit and run in Foreshore road in Srinagar has been solved and accused driver has been arrested from Barzulla, police said on Tuesday.
”On 27.01.2020, Police Station Nigeen received information that a speedy Bolero vehicle bearing registration No. JK01U-9756 hit and injured four pedestrians near Duck -Park Foreshore road and fled away from the spot,” the statement said.
”All the injured were immediately evacuated to nearby hospital by Police wherefrom they were shifted to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment. The injured persons were identified as Mst Asha resident of Fisherman colony Habak, Masarat Bano resident of Habak Naseembagh, Imtiyaza resident of Habak Naseembagh and Soni Nazir resident of Fisherman colony,” it said.
Among the injured, two ladies identified as Asha and Masrat succumbed to injuries at SKIMS Soura.
A Case FIR No. 04/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Nigeen and investigation into the matter was initiated.
“During the course of investigation, Srinagar police arrested the accused driver identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh resident of Elahi Bagh Srinagar within hours from Barzulla. The vehicle involved in the commission of crime was also seized. The accused has been shifted to Police Station Nigeen where he remains in custody,” the statement said.
