Weather dept predicts snowfall, rains in Valley, Jammu and Ladakh

SRINAGAR: All parts of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh are expected to receive snow and rainfall from Tuesday evening which may cause lead to closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway.
Director Metrological Department Sonum Lotus told Kashmir Reader a fresh spell of light to moderate rain and snowfall is expected on January 28 and 29 at most places in JK and few places at Kargil.
“The main activity is expected on January 28 evening which is expected to cause more rain/snow in south Kashmir and Pir Panjal and Banihal-Ramban, Poonch Rajouri etc,” he said.
According to Lotus, this may cause temporary disruption to vehicular traffic particularly on Ramban-Banihal axis as there would be heavy to moderate snowfall and rains.
“Thereafter from January 30 there is no significant weather change for a week,” he added.
He predicted warm days and cold nights ahead in the Valley.
On Monday, Srinagar day temperature recorded in Srinagar was 8.9 degree Celsius, which was more than 1.4 degrees than normal winter temperature.
At Qazigund the day temperature settled at 8.2 degree Celsius while in Pahalgam it was 5.5 degree Celsius. Kupwara recorded 9.9 degree Celsius, Kokernag 5.7 degree Celsius and Gulmarg saw 2.2 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile, one-way traffic on Srinagar-Jammu highway will be allowed to proceed from Jammu to Srinagar today.
