Militant killed in Bijebehara shootout

Army soldier also wounded

Anantnag: A militant was killed and an army soldier was injured in a brief exchange of shootout at Arwini area of Bijebehara in south Kashmir on Monday evening.
The exchange of fire erupted after militants opened fire at a patrol party of the government forces in the area.
The area was immediately cordoned off and search operations were going on to try and establish contact with the militants.
During searches, an exchange of fire resumed and resulted in the killing of a militant. The slain was identified as Shakir Ahmad of Kulgam. He was affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba.
A police spokesperson confirmed the killing of the militant saying arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession.
Though there was no word on the identity of the injured army man, sources in police said that he had minor injuries and has been evacuated in a hospital.
Stone pelting was also reported from the area while the search operation was being carried out by government forces.
