Weathermen predict fresh snow spell from Tuesday

Srinagar: The weathermen here have predicted a spell of snow in Jammu and Kashmir from Tuesday, with heavy snow expected in hilly areas.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a fresh and active Western Disturbance is very likely to affect Western Himalayan region from Sunday night onwards.
“It is very likely to cause fairly widespread to widespread rain/snow over Western Himalayan Region with isolated heavy rain/snow over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on 28th and over Uttarakhand on 29th,” reads a latest weather forecast bulletin by the IMD.
IMD has also warned western disturbance will cause cyclonic storm in Jammu and Kashmir
“The Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir persists and now seen between 2.1 and 3.1 km above mean sea level,” it said.
Kashmir’s Met office also corroborate the IMD’s forecast for January 28. However, it clarified that the heavy snowfall will occur in hilly areas while plains will receive moderate snow on January 28 and 29.
“There will be heavy snowfall in hilly areas of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh which may affect the surface transport,” said Director Met Department, Sonam Lotus.
He said the weather will remain dry on Monday with coming days remaining colder than nights.
“We will see drop in day temperature while nights will be warmer,” Lotus told Kashmir Reader.
According, Traffic Control Unit, the Srinagar-Jammu highway will be open for one-way traffic as there was no major disruption in the road connectivity.
“All vehicles including LMVs and HMVs would be allowed to ply from Srinagar towards Jammu on Monday. The traffic will be stopped if there will be landslide or any serious disruption,” it said.
