Complaints of ‘nepotism’ in appointment of senior residents at SKIMS

Srinagar: Job aspirants have accused the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura of favouritism in the appointment of Senior Residents at the institute.
A group of aspirants told Kashmir Reader that the selection for Senior Residency posts in the Department of Microbiology and the Department of Dentistry was conducted by the SKIMS administration to adjust ‘favourite candidates’.
They alleged the authorities had deliberately excluded some departments including the Microbiology and the Dentistry from the job advertisement in which it asked the eligible candidates to appear in the ‘Walk-in-Interview’ for Senior Residency and Junior Residency posts for different departments on December 26, 2019.
The advertisement notice only mentioned the departments including Critical Care, Medicine and Allied Specialties, Surgery and Allied Specialties, BT & IH, Nuclear Medicine and Hospital Administration, the aspirants said.
However, the selection list issued by SKIMS on January 4 included candidates from both the departments raising questions about it.
“The officials have put a question mark on the interview process by appointing blue-eyed persons for the Senior Residency while pushing the deserving candidates away,” said an aggrieved candidate.
He said they were left with no option but to approach court to seek interview for the posts again.
A senior SKIMS official, who was part of the selection process confirmed to Kashmir Reader that the selection committee headed by the Director SKIMS, Dr Ahangar made some changes at last stage.
“Some of the departments were included by the Director himself saying those are the allied branches of medicine and surgery. Questions can be asked about this last minute inclusion,” he said.
Director SKIMS, Dr A G Ahangar didn’t respond to the repeated calls and messages from this reporter.
