JKPCB asks businesses to register for e-waste management & handling

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Pollution control board (JKPCB) have asked all establishments units dealing with electrical and electronic items to seek permission from the Board under e-waste management & handling rules 2016 to operate his or her unit.
“If any enterprise which are manufactured and sells any electrical and electronic equipment and their components or parts or spares its own brand must seek permission and mandatory authorization from JKPCB, under E-waste management & handling rules 2016 to operate his or her unit,” Board said.
It added that if any individual selling any imported or assembled any electrical and electronic equipment and their components or parts its own brand must seek mandatory authorization under E-waste management & handling rules & environment protect act (EPA) 1986.
An official from the Pollution control Board told Kashmir Reader if anybody is found violating the directions shall be dealt strictly by PCB under relevant rules and provisions of laws.
Regional Director of JKPCB, Rafi Ahmad Bhat said that e-waste is hazardous and pollutes environment. “The pollution control board have given the authorization to the knowledge person, who can collect and dismantle e-waste in Srinagar city.”
“In other districts of the Kashmir valley, the people have also given authorization from the PCB to collect E- waste,” Bhat said
He added that all the bulk consumers may utilise service of authorization dismantler under proper receipt to manage their e-waste scrap and maintain proper record of each consignment.
