Snow clearance yet to be undertaken in Shopian

SHOPIAN: Shopian residents are outraged over non-clearance of snow from roads, saying that authorities are least interested in lessening the miseries of people.
The roads in main town are filled with many inches of snow despite the authorities claim that they have cleared the snow from roads.
According to locals only a few vehicles are able to enter the town because of the accumulated snow on the roads.
An official from roads and buildings department said that snow coming down from rooftops of houses and shops are blocking the roads.
“Despite the official notice to install snow stoppers, none of the shop owners have installed the stoppers,” he said.
Locals demand that authorities should take immediate steps to lift the snow from town so that people wouldn’t face inconvenience.
Irshad Ahmad, a local said that at many places besides narrow roads there are three to five inches of snow on the roads – which according to him restricts the vehicles to ply.
Executive engineer roads and buildings department, Abdul Quyoom Kirmani told Kashmir Reader that they have started a drive to lift the snow from town on Friday evening. “Today we are going to use around a dozen dumpers and bulldozers to lift snow from town,” he said.
Kirmani added that snow stoppers must be installed by the shop owners.
