Advocate Mir Shafkat Hussain passes away

SRINAGAR: Mir Shafkat Hussain, a noted lawyer of J&K High Court who was best known for fighting cases of persons arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA) breathed his last at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Monday morning.
Battling a lung disease for a long, Hussain was operated by the doctors three days ago for the ailment “but he couldn’t make it after the surgery,” family sources said.
Husain even fought PSA cases despite medical advice to take rest after August 5.
“His feet and hands swelled and he could barely move with back pain, but that did not hold him back from performing his professional,” his team member Advocate Zia told Kashmir Reader.
Hussain was the most sought out lawyer to fight PSA cases.”Whenever somebody was detained under PSA, people looked out for Hussain and his team,” Advocate GN Shaheen said.
Hussain started his career in 1991, and used to work as Junior counsel with ex-Bar President Nazir Ahmad Ronga dealing with trial cases.
Later Husain started visiting jails and fought for foreign inmates languishing there without trial. He was also credited in fighting out cases of custodial killings before court.
