Roadside parking ban: Regal Chowk auto stand drivers express anguish over fine

SRINAGAR: Regal chowk auto stand drivers have expressed anguish over fine imposed by the traffic department in the saftermath of High Court directions banning roadside parking in Srinagar city.
The drivers said that there auto stand is registeredwith Srinagar Municipal Corporation and regional Transport office Srinagar.
“Traffic department is imposing fine against the violators who park their vehicles along the roadside. Our auto stand is legal as per the law.How can traffic department impose fine against our auto’s – which is injustice with the poor drivers,” one of the driverssaid.
Nazir Ahmad Mir, another driver said that they have registered “Regal Auto Stand no.15” in 1977 under registration No. SN.14 MV of 1997 as per proper documentation. “We have been parking our auto’s in the stand from last 42 years,but have never faced any difficulties,” he said.
Mir asked, “How can traffic police department impose fine on our five auto’s, which were parked inside the stand.”
“We respect the High Court directions, but the authorities should provide us with alternate space where we can park our 15 auto’s,” they said.
Sonam Dechen, Superintendent of Traffic Police, Srinagar City told Kashmir Reader that the departmentis taking strict actions against the violators as per the court directions.
“The motive of the department is to make traffic can run smoothly in the city,” he said.
