Cross-LoC firing in Karnah

BARAMULLA: Even though calm prevailed along Line of Control in Uri but firing and shelling returned to Karnah village on Wednesday.
The firing started in the evening in Tadd area of Karnah in Kupwara district.
A day ago, two persons including a woman and an army officer were killed in Uri’s Hajipeer in fierce exchange of shelling and firing between armies of India and Pakistan. The firing stopped before dawn on Thursday.
Residents living in the affected villages said that they witnessed such intense firing after three years.
Station House Officer Police Station Uri Zia-ul-Haq said that the assessment of damage due to firing and shelling will be carried soon in the area.
Meanwhile some families from these shelling-hit villages have shifted to their relatives in safer places.
Station House Officer Police Station Tangdar Waseem Ahmad confirmed exchange of firing in Tadd area close to the LoC in Karnah. He said that firing was going on in the area when this report was being filed.
According to locals the area is devoid of any human habitation but the resonance of exploding shells could be heard from a distance.
