Air connectivity resumes, Jmu-Sgr highway closed

Srinagar: Even as air connectivity from Kashmir valley restored completely on Sunday, efforts are on to restore the road connectivity on Jammu Srinagar Highway where 4,000 vehicles have got stuck following fresh landslides at Ramban area.
The highway that remained closed for vehicular traffic for the fourth consecutive day, with officials saying that they are focusing on clearing the road of the stranded vehicles.
SP Traffic Rural, Muzzafar Ahmad Shah told Kashmir Reader that fresh landslide and shooting stone occurring between Ramban and Ramsu have occurred which resulted in its closure on Sunday.
“More than 4,000 heavy motor vehicles were still stranded on the highway,” he said.
Adding that that the traffic will be resumed once the road clears and those vehicles stranded or parked along the highway will be allowed to move on priority first.
Meanwhile, air connectivity got restored with officials at Srinagar Airport confirming that all 26 flights on Sunday operated due to the improved visibility.
Director Met Centre Srinagar Sonum Lotus told Kashmir Reader that visibility in Kashmir improved significantly paving way for normal make flight operations.
He added that cold and dry weather conditions will prevail for few days after which another wet spell is expected to occur on 20-21 of this month.
“We are expecting gradual rise in day temperature and fall in night temperature till 19 of this month,” he said.
Meanwhile, Gulmarg was the coldest recorded place in the Kashmir Valley with a low of minus 11.3 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam recorded a minimum of minus 5.4 degrees Celsius. Both the hill resorts experienced heavy snowfall.
The snow-bound Banihal in Ramban district was the coldest recorded place in Jammu region with a low of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius, followed by nearby Batotote at minus 2.6 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah in Doda district at minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, the official said.
