Drive against illegal mining launched in Pulwama

PAMPORE: Flood Control department on Tuesday launched a special drive against illegal mining in Kakapora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Sources said officials of Flood Control department along with police inspected stretch of Jehlum in MarwalKakapora area to identifythe spots were sand was illegally extracted.
AEE Flood Control department Gulzar Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that nine spots in Marwal area of Kakaporawere used to carry out illegal mining.
“The ramps (paths) were damaged on spot because of illegal mining and violators were warned to abstain from such practices,” he said.
Gulzar warned the drivers not to make new ramps (paths) in the river banks and added that violators willbe punished.
The illegal excavation has caused damage to the river embankment that is posing a threat of floods tovast area of land across of Kashmir.
