Internet will be restored in phases in Kashmir, says Murmu

BARAMULLA: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, GC Murmu on Wednesday said the internet services would be restored in Kashmir in a phase-wise manner once the situation turns “more normal”.
“We are reviewing it (internet shutdown) and as it (situation) becomes more normal, we will do it (restore) phase-wise. We have already discussed it with our administration and we are taking it up,” Murmu told reporters on
the sidelines of the passing-out parade of police recruits at the Police Training Centre, Sheeri in Baramulla.
However, he gave no time-frame for its restoration. Internet is suspended in the region since August 5 when the government of India abrogated Article 370.
He described the situation in the valley post abrogation of Article 370 as “very good”.
The LG lauded police for their role in conducting Block Development Council polls smoothly.
“I think the situation is very good, it has improved very well. The police have been doing a yeoman’s service and there is a high level of coordination among all the forces here,” he said.
Murmu said that people are coming out as they want development of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Asked about release of politicians detained in the Valley, he said, “We will let you know about it very soon”.
Later Murmu went to Salamabad in Uri where he met Sarpanchs and Panchs and assured them full support.
