SRINAGAR: TRC Grade Separator flyover is being used as a parking place by the people on Sunday’s, who are coming for shopping. This flyover was thrown open this year for the smooth flow of traffic.
The flyover from Lal Chowk side has been turned into parking lot where light motors vehicles including two wheelers are parked during Sunday’s.
Zahid Ahmad, a local, said that the flyover was meant for smooth flow of traffic movement. “But the people are using this flyover for the parking.”
“Due to the wrong parking, traffic movement is disrupted. This flyover also helps people to reach GP Pant Hospital within no time during the emergency time,” he added.
A CRPF trooper stationed on this flyover said that there is no permission for parking on flyover. “We do not allow people to park their vehicles on flyover, but people defy orders and park their vehicles,” he said.
Superintendent of Traffic Police of Srinagar city, Sonum Dechen, said, “The street vendors put their stalls on the roadsides in Polo View, Lal Chowk and Hari Singh High Street side and people are parking their vehicles on the wrong sides during Sunday’s – which is causing traffic disruption. If the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and other departments look into this matter, it will help traffic department for regulating traffic movement in this area.”
