Shopian post office accused of negligence, poor services

SHOPIAN: Indian postal services in Shopian has been accused of providing least or no facilities to the people since the internet blackout. Locals allege that no mails are sent or received and nothing is done to improve the services.
Bilal Ahmad one of the locals said that recently he went to the Post Office Shopian for withdrawal of cash,“but his request was ignoredby the officials” with the excuse of no cash.
“I was forced to visit five times to withdraw cash as they told me they have to bring cash which took them five days,” he said.
Mushtaq Ahmad, another local from Shopian told Kashmir Reader that he was told to go to Pulwama to drop mail by himself. “They told me that they have no vehicle arrangements and asked me to drop mail by myself and I did the same and dropped mail at Pulwama,” he said.
Many people who spoke to Kashmir Reader said that they often face problems caused by staffers at post office Shopian, and “at times mails reach with long delaysandthere is no benefit of having postal services”.
Habil Iqbal said that they ask for registered envelopes for mails, but officials don’t give it him. “They often say that they have no availability of one thing or another, and now time has come when they have totally abandoned the services that too when internet services are shut,” he alleged.
