Roadside parking outside DSEK office creates inconvenience for commuters

SRINAGAR: Roadside parking outside Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) office at Samandar Bagh here by visitors is causing inconvenience to commuters as it leads to acute traffic congestions in the area especially
at peak hours.
With the relatively limited area of the directorate premises packed with official vehicles, traffic congestion is witnessed every other day.
Commuters, who travel on the road stretch regularly, said they face a lot of inconvenience due to the traffic jams on the crucial road stretch, which connects city centre Lal Chowk to the interior areas including Barbarshah,
Habba Kadal, Baba Demb and others.
“Although the link road was a shortcut between Lal Chowk and the interior areas, the regular traffic jams on the road stretch due to the haphazard parking has made travelling to the areas a lengthy affair,” Riyaz Ahmad, a
commuter said.
“Due to the regular traffic jams, one is compelled to take the Jehangir Chowk and other routes which turn out to be way lengthier,” he said.
He blamed the dearth of parking space inside the DSEK premises and demanded additional parking space for visitors.
The parking space inside the premises, he said, hardly sufficed the vehicles of the staff at the directorate not to talk of the visitors.
An official at the DSEK too attributed the traffic jams outside the directorate to the dearth of public parking in the vicinity.
Even though authorities are constructing two multi-storey parking places at Sheikh Bagh and Old State Motor Garages Complex in the city centre, the lack of public parking in the vicinity of the DSEK is likely to only worsen
the traffic jams along the stretch.
