11,068 km roads cleared of snow across Kashmir, says MED

SRINAGAR: The Mechanical Engineering department of Kashmir said that it has cleared 11,068 kilometersof roads of snow across Kashmir valley recently.
As per the officials figures available with Kashmir Reader, 3715 km of roads of snow has been cleared from three districts of the centre Kashmir. In Srinagar, 1180.25 kms of road of snow has been cleared , in Budgam 1567.54 kms and in Ganderbal 267.41kms.
Out of three districts of central Kashmir, the department has cleared 267.41 kms in Ganderbal district.
In south Kashmir’s districts, the department have cleared 3921 kms ofroad of snow.
In Anantnag district, 1697 kmsof road of snow has been cleared by the department. In Pulwama district, 868.48 kmshave been cleared, in Shopian district 706.87 kmsand in Kulgam district 647.69 kmsof road of snow have been cleared by the department.
In north Kashmir districts, 3432 kmsof road has been cleared by the department in this month. In Baramiulla district 1495 kmsof road has been cleared from roads, in Kupwara district 914.31 kms of road have been cleared, in Bandipora district 590.81 kms have been cleared.
In Tangmarg and famous tourist destination Gulmarg – which has a specific unit of snow clearance, 432 kms of road of snow has been cleared.
As per the official figures, the central Kashmiris districts zone have 40 snow clearance vehicles. Srinagar unit have 23 vehicles including18 snow plough, 4 snow cat (Plough) and 1 Unimog , the Budgam unit have 12 snow clarence machines including 7snow plough and 5 snow cat. Ganderbal unit has 5 snow plough and 1 snow cat.
The south Kashmiris zone have 54 snow vehicles. The Khanabal unit have 23 snow clearance.
The north Kashmir’s Zone has 60 snow clearance machines.
An official from the mechanical department told the Kashmir reader that the department is clearing snow rapidly from roads.
Sami Arif, Chief engineer of Roads and Buildings Departmentsaid,“400 tractors and other machines have cleared the snow on the contract basis in different parts of the valley.”
