CCTVs to check ferrying of construction material around Dal, Nigeen lakes defunct

SRINAGAR: The cameras installed around Dal and Nigeen lakes to keep a check onillegal ferrying of construction material are non-functional as the CCTVs have not been connected to surveillance hub.
Thecameras installed a few months ago had to be linked with a proper monitoring and surveillance hub to keep a proper check, but due to negligence, they are defunct.
Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA)has first usediron barriers to stop the movement of trucks. After the government directed LAWDA to use modern technology at checkpoints to check the movement of trucks, cameras were installed at key points to check illegal construction.
Vice Chairman LAWDA, G.M Dar told Kashmir Reader that CCTV’s have been installed at every checkpoint to curbillegal ferrying of construction material,“but these cameras are not working due to some technical problem”.
“We are keeping a watch of trucks and seizingthem that supply material in those areas were construction is barred,”he said.
He added, “We have already forwardedour request to top officials for providing separate police station and checkpoints who can look after LAWDA related work and can work 24 hours. Our enforcement wing has two DSPs for checking illegal construction, but they are not able to look after for whole area of Dal Lake.”
