Srinagar areas falling under BB cantt get property tax bills

Srinagar: Srinagar residents falling under the cantonment board Badamibagh have been receiving property tax bills in last couple of days.
Many residents told Kashmir Reader that they were surprised to notice some unknown persons have dropped the bills at their entrances.
“We didn’t saw anybody dropping the bill at our house, nor were we informed by the officials of the board about it,” said a resident in Sonawar neighbourhood.
The bills were also received in Shivpora, Indira Nagar, Athwajan and other neighbouring areas falling under the jurisdiction of cantonment board. The tax is to be paid annually by the owners to the cantonment board.
“Initially, I took it as an electricity bill,” says Bilal Ahmad of Shivpora, who has been taxed Rs 8570 for his property.
Residents said that they could hardly understand the nomenclature of the bill saying they ‘guess’ that they have been charged 10 percent of the price of their property they own.
“Every household received a bill with different amount mentioned on them. Nobody exactly knows how the amount was calculated by the authorities concerned,” Abdul Hamid, a resident of Athwajan told Kashmir Reader.
This is the second time the residents received property tax bills. But after drawing flak last time, the board had dropped the plan.
