North Kashmir villages reel under dark for a week now

BARAMULA: Dozens of villages in north Kashmir are without electricity since last week after snow caused major damages to power infrastructure in the Valley.
Villages in Pattan and Rafiabad are worst hit as electricity has not been restored to these areas yet. A similar situation exists in Narwav, Wagoora and adjoining areas.
Locals expressed serious concern over slow pace of work on restoration keeping in view forecast for another spell of snow in coming days.
Irshad Ahmad Mir, a resident of Pattan area said that authorities should have worked on a war footing basis not only to restore the present damage but initiate measures to see that no more damage take place with an approaching snow spell.
“A week has passed and a lot of the trees are yet to be cleared from power lines,” he said.
The power crisis has led many to switch back to traditional modes of lighting and heating.
District development commissioner Baramulla GN Yatoo admitted that that some power receiving stations are yet to function saying restoration work is going on to end the crisis.
