Kashmir journos protest internet ban

SRINAGAR: Journalists on Tuesday staged a sit-in to mark 100 days of internet ban that has severely hit media in Kashmir.
Scores of journalists from different media organizations assembled here in premises of Kashmir Press Club to protest against blanket ban on internet on all platforms.
The ban continues since August 5 when the government of India abrogated Article 370, which guaranteed Jammu and Kashmir special constitutional status in Indian constitution.
Holding placards, which read “100 days no internet” and “Stop humiliating Kashmiri journalists”, journalists also held laptops as a mark of protest.
They demanded restoration of internet services to all media organizations in Kashmir so the journalists can work properly.
“We are demanding internet services should be restored to media organizations. We just demand this basic fundamental tool of the journalism should be restored because we pay for it,” said Parvaiz Bukhari of AFP.
Currently, the government has set up media facilitation centre where journalists can access internet.
