Srinagar: A gunfight between militants and government forces erupted in Bandipora on Sunday, resulting in killing of militant, officials said.
The gunfight started when government forces launched a search operation in Lawdara village following specific information about the presence of some militants, it said.
During searches, the hiding militants opened fire on the forces personnel resulting in exchange of fire.
The identity and group affiliation of the militant killed is yet to be ascertained, the officials said.
The gunfight is going on when last reports came in, the officials said, adding further details are awaited.
