Power restoration our priority: Div Com

SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan Friday said that the priority of the divisional Administration is to restore electricity in the valley after the heavy spell of snowfall that led to power shutdown.
“In Srinagar city alone, trees have fallen at about 400 places causing heavy damage to the electric wires which led to the power shutdown,” Div Com said during his extensive tour of Srinagar City to take first hand appraisal of ongoing restoration works being carried at various places.
Div Com said that work is going on war footings and around 2500 workers of electric department along with the workers from SDRF and Home Guards have been deputed on ground to restore electricity at the earliest.
He was accompanied by Additional Commissioner, Kashmir; ADC Srinagar; Commissioner SMC; Chief Engineer PDD; Chief Engineer R&B and the officials of other concerned departments.
With regards to the snow clearance, Div Com informed that all the major roads have been cleared. He said 156 machines of Mechanical Department are clearing snow in the Kashmir valley out of which 18 machines are dedicated for Srinagar alone.
In addition to this, 425 machines of R&B have been deputed for the clearance of snow from various roads, lanes and by-lanes. Besides, 3000 workers from Municipality are on snow clearance job, he added.
During the city tour, the Div Com visited various places and areas that witness huge rush of public and transport. On the occasion, he passed various directions to different departments.
He directed the officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) for the clearance of pavements and deployment of dewatering pumps in case of water logging, wherever needed.
