SRINAGAR: A civilian was killed and 41 others injured in a grenade blast in the heart of Srinagar city on Monday.
The grenade attack took place around 1:30 pm when people were making purchases from street vendors at an overcrowded Hari Singh High Street in Amira Kadal.
In the attack, a civilian identified as Rinku Kumar, a resident of Uttar Pradesh was killed.
He was a toy seller, and had suffered major injuries, both internal and external.
According to SMHS superintendent Nazir Chowdry, two of the injured are critical, while other have minor injuries.
“Some have been discharged, while many are under observation,” he said.
DIG Central Kashmir VK Bridi said that police were investigating the incident.
According to eyewitness, the attack took place between 1 and 1:30 pm.
At the time of attack, the area was bustling with activity. The markets had remained open for a bit longer, than what was observed over the last month.
Among the injured were pedestrians, street vendors, buyers and some shopkeepers.
Danish is one of the street vendors who had received multiple injuries on his body.
He told Kashmir Reader that at the time of attack he was winding up his cart on which he sells imported second hand garments.
Danish was making a living to support his father, a bus driver, who has been without work for last three months of lockdown since abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir, and mother.
“All I can say is to ask for prayers so that my son heals up soon so that he can keep the hearth burning at home,” Danish’s father, Mohammad Sidiq Shoda said.
A bystander Nadeem Manzoor received minor injuries when he was on way to home. A resident of Charef Shareef, Budgam, Nadeem, had come to visit his friends and collect notes for his examination.
