Grenade blast outside SMHS Hospital, 6 CRPF men injured

Srinagar: At least six CRPF personnel were injured as suspected militants hurled a grenade on government forces at Kak Sarai outside the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar, officials said.
Panic gripped parts of the city after the blast as government forces intensified checking at several spots across the city.
Witnesses said they heard a loud bang followed by a few gunshots after some time, creating chaos in the entire area.
People were seen scouring for safety after the bang.
Government forces sealed the area outside the SMHS (Causality entrance) and stopped people from using the gate to enter the hospital.
Inspector General, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Ravideep Singh told Kashmir Reader that six CRPF personnel were injured after a grenade was lobbed on a CRPF party, who were on duty outside
Karan Nagar Police Station.
He said the six men had received minor injuries and were stable.
Commuters said they were stopped at several checkpoints around the area, and not allowed to move ahead at Nawab Bazar, Karan Nagar and adjoining areas after the incident.
They alleged that several bikers were thrashed by government forces in the area after the incident.
Meanwhile normal life remained affected across Kashmir on Saturday for 83rd day with commercial establishments shut and public transport off the roads post abrogation of Article 370 on August 5.
However, increased number of private vehicles led to traffic snarls at several places in the city, as residents thronged to markets which open for a few hours in the morning.
As a mark of protest over the abrogation of the special status of the state, shopkeepers open their shops only for a few hours in the morning and down the shutters by 11am.
Flea market at Polo Ground, Batamaloo, Jehangir Chowk, Dalgate crossing and Hazouri Bagh witnessed huge rush of shoppers making purchases from street vendors.
In several parts of Kashmir Valley, commercial load carriers, three wheelers were also seen ferrying goods.
Meanwhile, students continued to stay away from schools and colleges despite efforts by administration to resume class work at educational institutes.
