Baramulla: A woman was killed while three others were injured as cross-LoC fire raged in Keran area of Kupwara district on Thursday.
The deceased was identified by police as Hamida Fatima, wife of Riyaz Ahmad, resident of Hajitarah.
She was killed in the shelling in Haridal village.
SHO Tanghdar, Waseem Ahmad said that one woman has been killed and three others have been injured. The injured have been moved to Sub-District Hospital Tanghdar.
Locals said exchange of fire between India and Pakistan troops began at around 4pm creating panic in the area. The firing was going on till last reports came in.
Some shells, locals said, exploded in vicinity of a power project at Pingla, Haridal. A tractor was also damaged in the firing.
Local sources said 12 houses were damaged in the shelling. One house was also damaged In Shamswari areas, they said,
Earlier a civilian and two army men were killed in cross-LoC firing in the sector on Sunday.
Damage to residential houses and constant threats have led to migration of people in the area with many residents demanding bunkers for safety.
