Srinagar: The J&K High Court has directed the GOI’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYS), to place its proposal about sports facilities in J&K before the court within four weeks failing which the Director MYS, has been directed to personally appear in the court on November 25.
The court passed the direction after Vishnu Sudhakaren, Assistant Director, Department of Sports, MYS informed the court about measures under consideration at the “highest level”.
The court of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Rashid Ali Dar recorded that it was unfortunate that the respondents are not in a position to inform the court about any concrete measures despite the matter pending for over a year.
“Let the proposal in this regard be placed before us within four weeks from today failing which Director, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Government of India shall remain personally present in court,” the division bench ordered.
Meanwhile the court also pointed towards its July 10 order where it a deficiency of coaches for different sports in the state was noted.
“We had already directed the state government to place the concrete measures regarding identification of persons who deserve to be imparted proper training as coaches in various sports disciplines. So we direct that a report be placed before this court identifying the sports disciplines as well as number of coaches,” the court said.
The court asked state government to engage with sports bodies in the country to ensure that they are able to get the best training for sports coaches in the state. The court also asked for a status report on development of sports infrastructure in the state.
