After erroneously failing students, KU misplaces answer sheets

SRINAGAR: After erroneously failing some students undergraduate students, the University of Kashmir has allegedly misplaced their answer sheets.
The varsity is now asking the students to produce carbon copies of the answer scripts (OMR sheets) for re-evaluation, the students said.
At least 26 3rd semester students pursuing B.A Fazila at Islamic Oriental College (IOC) Tral were among many students “erroneously” failed in various subjects in their semester-end examinations in May this year.
While the results of several students have been rectified by the KU, the aggrieved students at IOC Tral alleged that the officials at varsity’s Examination Section had “misplaced” the answer scripts of two of their papers, ‘Arabic Language and Literature’ and ‘Hadith and Jurisprudence’.
Instead of helping them out, the officials are asking them to produce carbon copies of answer scripts to rectify the results, they said.
An official at IOC Tral acknowledged that the KU had misplaced answer scripts of 26 students of the institute.
He said the KU officials had, on record, received the answer scripts from the examiners at Government Degree College Tral, where the aggrieved students appeared in the semester-end exams.
“Instead of fixing their fault, they are now asking the students to produce the carbon copies of the answer scripts,” he said.
Although it was not a big deal for the KU to locate the missing answer scripts, Controller of Examinations at the varsity, Prof Farooq Ahmad Mir said they had asked the students for the carbon copies to expedite the process.
“The students take the carbon copies of the OMR answer scripts with them. We asked them to just produce them and we will do it,” Prof Mir said.
He informed that many such students had already deposited the carbon copies of the answer scripts to rectify the results.
