The Power of Dua

The Power of Dua

Dua (loosely translated as prayer) is one of the most potent and powerful concepts. As imperfect, weak and flawed human beings , there is very little in our power and capacity. But, at times, arrogance and pride make us believe otherwise and we consider ourselves to be more than what we are. This is a sorry and sad state of affairs for human beings but this too can be corrected by dua and supplication. The philosophy for and behind the dua is that we as human beings reach out to the Almighty with all due humility, with a weeping heart, ask for something we need. Usually and often times, the dua should be about spiritual strength and sustenance, strengthening of faith, and other allied spiritual matters. But, besides being spiritual beings, we are humans who live in a world that presents us with problems, some of which can be staggering and daunting that we can be overwhelmed by these. It is at these times and under these conditions that we can and should make dua too, yet again with all due humility and a weeping heart. If the intensity of the dua is strong, if the feelings behind it are sincere and pure, the dua is listened to and things start happening. Dua has such potency that once a person makes it, the immediate effect is on the soul. Dua then also constitutes nourishment for the soul which is an essential sine qua non for peace within, contentment and spiritual happiness. So, for both prosaic and deeper spiritual reasons we must always hasten to make dua as it cleanses the soul and makes for a deeper spiritual connect. But, there is a caveat: there are quacks and charlatans out there who profess to make dua for us in return for cash or kind. These must be avoided. However, this is not to say that all those who make dua are like this. Only some are. Many are spiritually gifted people, noble in spirit who can make dua. But, these people have to be sought out. In the final analysis, where collective dua holds its own place, but dua at a personal and individual level has its merits too. Key, however, sincerity of intent and sincerity of feelings that must and should underpin it. Duas are potent, powerful concepts and things happen when you make these. Try making dua then with sincerity and sensitivity!
