PDD employees hold sit-in against privatisation of dept

SRINAGAR: The employees of Power Development Department (PDD) on Thursday held a sit-in here against the process of un-bundling of the department by government
The protesters from various districts of the Kashmir assembled at PDD complex at Jahangir Chowk under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Power Employees Coordination Committee (JKPECC). They chanted slogans “privatisation na manzoor” and “PDD employees unity zinda baad”.
“We are protesting against the process of un-bundling of the department by the government,” they said.
Coordinator of JKPECC, Mohammad Maqbool Najar, said, “We are nearly 31,000 employees working in the department. We have held a meeting with Commissioner Secretary of PDD on September 30, and Development Commissioner of Power Development Department on October 1 in which members of JKPECC has requested the government for constitution of a committee to prepare a comprehensive proposal for the re-organisation of J&K PDD, J&K SPDC, J&K STDC between UT of J&K and UT of Ladakh.”
“If the government has started un-bundling process, what kind of benefit will PDD employees get, and the common people will get affected. The casual labours, daily wagers, need based workers and seasonal labours, other employees of the will be affected due to this,” said the members of JKPECC.
“The JKPECC will give another strike programme till the government give us formal response regarding our demands,” they added.
