Shehla Rashid in Kashmir

Srinagar: Prominent youth leader and former Vice-President JNU Students Union Shehla Rashid is on a five-day visit to Kashmir beginning today.

This is her first public visit to her native place during which she will have a public interaction under “Rubaru” programme at the hotel Taj Vivanta and an interaction with media students in Srinagar on Monday.

Shehla will address a press conference as well on Monday afternoon in Srinagar, where she is likely to address some burning issues such as SRO-202, Ashifa rape and murder case and other youth related issues.

She is accompanied by two other youth leaders Mohit Kumar Pandey, former JNUSU President, who faced academic suspension for protesting on the issue of disappearance of Najeeb Ahmed, a JNU student; and Rama Naga, former JNUSU General Secretary who, along with Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid, was accused of sedition during the JNU controversy.

Born in the Downtown area of Srinagar, Shehla came into the limelight after the JNU student union president Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested on charges of sedition in February 2016, leading the student agitation calling for the release of Kumar, Umar Khalid and others. She also played a lead role in the “Occupy UGC” movement.

She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at the JNU. (KNS)
