Srinagar: A youth from Handwara who was believed to be abducted last week, was held by police for faking his abduction to avoid paying a debt to his in-laws, police said on Friday.
The police said Arshid Ahmed Mir S/O Abdul Rashid Mir R/O Bararipura, had made a distress call to his wife that he was being kidnapped by some persons on 1st April.
Consequently, a case was registered in this regard and police started the investigations.
“A special squad was constituted by SSP Handwara Gulam Jeelani Wani headed by SDPO Handwara Shabir Khan and SHO Handwara Azim Iqbal to trace out youth and find out the facts” , a police official said.
“After being put to sustained questioning it was surfaced that Arshad made this drama as he was under a debt trap” the official said.
“On 1st April he met his two friends Ashfaq Ahmed Mir and Hamid Ahmed of Langate who gave him a lift till Langate after Arshad Parked his vehicle JKO5G 0416 on the roadside at Younsoo and made a hoax call to his wife that he was kidnapped. After reaching Langate he hired a Sumo and reached Qalamabad and spent night at the house of Mohd Shafi Mir R/O Pringroo. Next day he asked brother of Mohd Shafi to drop him at Chogul. At Chogul he started screaming in a field dramatizing his already fake story. One Sonaullah Teli who was working in his field saw him and went near to him. Arshad narrated him his fake story. Sonaullah brought him to his house” , the official said.
“Police got a clue of his presence at Teli’s house in Chogul. He was brought to Police Station Handwara for questioning. He narrated his kidnapping story to investigation team but the evidences and circumstances didn’t match. and after being put to sustained cross questioning he broke down and spilled the beans” police said.
“Arshad said that some months back he got a cab from his brother in law on the deal that he will share his profit with them”, police said.
“Since I could not get too much of earnings I was pressurized by my in-laws” Arshad told police.
“I then made a concocted story of kidnapping to return this cab back to my in-laws without having to pay the debt”, Arshad told police.
Pertinently, an FIR No 104/2018 US 364 RPC is already lodged at PS Handwara in this regard.
