Srinagar: The Kashmir University has secured 43rd position among the first 50 universities in the National Institutional Ranking Framework-2018, according to the results announced by the MHRD on Tuesday. The Indian Institute of Sciences Bengaluru has topped the list.
The results of the ranking were released by the MHRD Minister Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The University has also bagged an overall ranking of 71 among more than 4000 institutions (including universities, IITs etc.) ranked by the MHRD under NIRF, the results on the NIRF website reveal.
About 4500 institutes had submitted their details for ranking by NIRF this year. At the event unveiling the rankings for 2018, Javadekar also said that it would be mandatory for public institutes to participate in the ranking framework from next year, according to NDTV.
“And, those public institutions which will not take part in it will face fund cut,” he said.
The University of Kashmir had last year figured at 73rd rank. This time however, it has surpassed Jammu University which was recently accorded the autonomous status by the MHRD. JU has in this year’s NIRF figured at overall rank of 77, with rank at 51 among the universities’ category, the NIRF website reveals.
The last year’s score of the University of Kashmir was 36.32, against this year’s score of 43.96. The University has scored 62.39 (out of 100) in the Teaching Learning Resources (TLR), 20.08 in Research and Professional Practice, 77.61 in Graduation Outcomes (GO) and 36.99 in Outreach and Inclusivity (OI).
The point score of JU is 43.19. The JU’s parameter-wise figures are: TLR (65.22), RPC (18.20), GO (69.46), OI (39.44) and Perception (1.22).
The NIRF was approved by the MHRD and launched on 29th September 2015. It, according to the MHRD website, outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country.
The methodology draws from the overall recommendations of broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.
The parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception.”
