Dilapidated Sheikhpora-Shirmal road irk locals, commuters

Shopian: The residents of various villages of South Kashmir’s Shopian district here have accused authorities of ignoring their plights, saying that the dilapidated Sheikhpora-Shirmal road has resulted in immense hardships to them.

Inhabitants of Odura, Nosipora, Nazninpora, Dowini, Pashpora and adjoining areas are facing immense hardships due to the deplorable condition of Sheikhpora-Shirmal road.

The locals said that the roads got damaged during the 2014 floods but the authorities paid no heed to repair the roads since then.

“We are being forced to facing tremendous hardships in absence of the proper road in the area, laments Mudasir Ahmad, a resident of Odura.

“Nobody is listening to our pleas,” Aijaz Ahmad Lone, another resident from the area said.

Villagers said that the road despite being the lone connectivity was ignored by the government due to some unknown reasons.

“The road is bumpy, narrow and dotted with potholes, which has damaged the vehicles passing through the road,” Abdul Gaffar Rather, another resident said.

Executive Engineer of Roads and Buildings (R&B) division Shopian, Abdul Aziz Bhat said that they will repair the roads shortly.

“We are working on repairing the roads and the Sheikhpora-Shirmal road will also be taken into the consideration,” he said.
