Illegal timber seized in Rafiabad

Rafiabad: A Tipper carrying illegal timber worth Rs lakhs was seized from North Kashmir’s Rafiabad area during an operation conducted by forest department on Tuesday.

According to forest Range officer Rafiabad on a specific information regarding the supply of illegal timber in the area, he along with Block forest officers of balhama, Dalri and Payeen with staff of forest control room Rafiabad laid naka at Buddann Rafiabad during intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

“Consequently illegal timber which was being carried from Buddan area of Rafiabad in a four wheeler vehicle (Tipper) bearing number JK02G-5722,  was seized” , the official said.

“The tipper was carrying 49.91 cfts of illegal timber which was cut-down illegally from forest areas of Rafiabad” , DFO Langate forest division Mohammad Ayub Pandith said while adding that driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the spot.

A case in this regard has been registered in police station Dangiwacha, he further said.
