TeH chief’s son joins Hizb, cops son bonds with JeM

Srinagar: The picture of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai’s son Junaid Ashraf has gone viral on social media, hours after his family filed a missing report at Saddar Police Station here on Saturday. The photograph shows he has joined the militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. Meanwhile, a cop’s son has reportedly joined Jeish-e-Mohammed outfit. 

Pertinently, Sehrai took over the leadership of the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat – the hardline pro-freedom party – last week from Syed Ali Geelani. The two have been close associates for more than last six decades.

According to family sources, Junaid did not return home after Friday prayers.

Junaid, a resident of Takipora, Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, presently living at Jehangir Colony in Baghat, Srinagar, is an MBA student at Kashmir University. His family on Saturday approached the concerned police station and filed a missing report there.

“Junaid’s brother Rashid Ashraf Khan arrived at the police station today afternoon with a complaint that his brother is missing since yesterday,” an officer at the police station told a local news gathering agency.

Later in the day, Junaid’s photograph appeared on social media showing he has joined Hizbul Mujahideen. The photograph shows he joined the outfit on 24 March 2018 and his code name as Amaar Bhai.

SSP Srinagar Imtiaz Ismail Parray said that police received a missing report from the youth’s family.

Regarding the photograph wielding AK-47, the SSP said they are ascertaining the authenticity of the picture and have started investigations.

In another incident of similar nature, a cops son Aabid Maqbool Bhat, a resident of Khangund, Tral, wielding a gun has gone viral on social media. Abid, son of a police head constable Mohammad Maqbool has announced his joining the Jaish-e-Mohammad with the code name of ‘Umar Bhai’.

Recently, two youth Bilal Ahmad Shah and Manan Wani- a Ph.D. scholar also joined the militant outfit. Both announced their joining by releasing photographs wielding AK-rifles. (GNS)
