DAK expresses solidarity with GDC students

Srinagar: Representatives of Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) Saturday paid a visit to the protesting students of Government Degree College (GDC), Srinagar who are demanding removal of Head of the Department Orthodontics, who allegedly has been harassing the students.

The representatives of DAK assured them aggrieved students that the association stand by their side and will keep on pressing for the ‘just’ demands of the protesting students.

While talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’ Dr Owais, General Secretary DAK said that the demands of the students are just and there has to be an immediate solution to their problems.

“We are here to express our solidarity with the students and we share their concerns as it is the crucial stage of their career, if such a thing happens it is surely going to jeopardize their career, he said.

Pertinently, students on Saturday threatened that they would start hunger strike from Tuesday if their demands are not met.

“We are starting an indefinite hunger strike if our demands are not met,” said Dr Manjeet Thakur.

Notably, students at GDC are demanding an immediate removal of HoD Orthodontics followed the allegations of the students that the concerned HoD was torturing them physically as well as mentally.

DAK also threatened that it would be forced to launch a state wide agitation if the demands of these students are not met, “if the demands are not met, we would be forced to start a state wide agitation to press for the demands,” Dr Owais said.
