Srinagar: Two Indian soldiers were injured after armies of India and Pakistan on Thursday exchanged indiscriminate firing in Nowshera and Mankote sector of Rajouri district.
The latest exchange of fire took place in Danakha Gnaha and Baba Khori area of Nowshera in Rajouri. Reports said that a shell landed near Nowshera market causing panic among the residents.
The officials have expressed concerns over the shelling and said that interior areas of the town are being made targets.
“Shells landed near Nowshera town. Worrisome situation as interior areas are under target,” Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri Shahid Iqbal Choudhary wrote on Twitter.
The shelling was going on when the report was filed.
Earlier, an army spokesman said that Pakistani army violated the ceasefire and opened fire on army’s 5 Mahar posts at Mankote sector of Mendhar since Thursday morning.
During the continuous pounding two soldiers received injuries and they were shifted to military hospital Udhampur for treatment, Army spokesman said. The injured were identified as Naib Subedar Tarsam Singh and Sandeep Rai.
“Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of Small arms, automatics and mortars. Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively and heavy damage has been inflicted on Pakistani Army Posts,” the spokesman said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that two Pakistan Army soldiers were killed when Indian forces opened unprovoked fire across the Line of Control (LoC). The ISPR added that the latest incident of firing occurred in the Bhimber sector of the LoC.
The soldiers were identified as Sipahi Munir Chauhan and Sipahi Amir Hussain, added ISPR.
The ISPR added that the Pakistan Army responded and caused heavy damage to Indian posts in retaliatory action.
