Gunmen fire on security vehicle in Pulwama

Srinagar: Suspected militants Tuesday opened firing on security forces near an Air Force station in Pulwama district, defense sources said.

“There has been a firing incident at Malangpora, near the Awantipora Air Force station,” they said.

Sources said that militants attacked a vehicle of Defence Security Corps (DSC) in Malangpora area however; there was no report of any casualties.

They said that militants fired few gunshots at the DSC vehicle near air force station Malangpora Pulwama. The guards retaliated by firing several shots, leading to a brief exchange of fire.

Soon after the incident, the forces personnel comprising Jammu and Kashmir police, army’s Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the whole area to nab the attackers, they said.

Pertinently, the Defence Security Corps provides security at Defence Ministry sites.

Meanwhile, police refuted claims made by some media outlets about the militant attack on Air force station Koel.

“No attack on the air force station Koel. A SF vehicle while returning from a nearby Water point had exchange of fire with militants. Area under cordon. Information is preliminary in nature. @JmuKmrPolice”, Jammu Kashmir Police tweeted.

Earlier, there were reports about a suspected militant attack on the guard’s post of Air force station in Malangpora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
