Srinagar: As the weather continued to remain sunny from the last couple of days, the weatherman on Monday predicted moderate rain or snowfall from Feb 23 evening.
Director Meteorological (MeT) department, Sonum Lotus told ‘Kashmir Vision’ though the department would come up with the proper forecast on Tuesday but so far they are predicting moderate rain or snowfall from Feb 23 evening.
“The wet spell which would likely begin from Feb 23 evening would end on Feb 25 evening,” he said.
He said that the plains as well as higher reaches would receive moderate rain or snowfall from Feb 23 evening while a few places may receive heavy rain or snowfall as well. “We are excepting a good spell of rain or snowfall from Feb 23,” he said.
“Prior to Feb 23, the higher reaches would witness light rain or snowfall on Feb 21,” he informed.
“We will be issuing a proper statement over the prediction on Tuesday,” he said.
Replying to a query, Lotus informed that the Valley usually witnesses adequate wet spell in the month of February as compared to January.
“The frequency of western disturbances increases in February month following which the people experience more snow or rainfall as compared to the month of January,” he said.
He also advised people to make plans for travelling after going through the proper prediction.
Meanwhile, officials in the MeT said that the weather would mostly remain sunny during the other days in the Valley.
Pertinently, the Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for four consecutive days after the Valley received fresh snowfall last week.
The highway was closed due to the slippery conditions of the roads as well as landslides triggered due to the snowfall and rains.
