1390 buildings occupied by forces in JK, says govt

Jammu: The government on Saturday revealed that 1390 government as well as private buildings are under the occupation of security forces in the state.
This was revealed in response to a query raised by Independent MLA, Er Abdul Rashid during the question hour of the Legislative Assembly (LA).
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also holds the charges of Home department, in her written reply, informed the House that 1094 private and 296 government buildings were occupied by the forces in the state.
“Around 385 private buildings are occupied by Army while as 709 are occupied by other security forces in the state,” CM in her written reply said.
Divulging further details, the she informed the House that an amount of Rs 1.62 crore was paid by the security forces per month against the buildings occupied by them in the state.
MLA Langate had sought details about the structures against which the rent is paid by the security forces.
CM in her reply however, said information relating to security camp location and other related issues was extremely sensitive matter as it reveals the location and strength of security units across state.
“Putting the information on public domain is likely to compromise the security of these camps,” she said, adding that the details should remain classified and not revealed except in non-specific form.
She further informed the House that efforts were on for vacation of government and private buildings on priority basis.
“The alternate accommodation programme for CRPF is due under phase-V for which formal proposal has to be submitted to the ministry of home affairs, government of India,” she said.
