Shopian killings: BJP demands ‘clarity’ on withdrawing FIR against army men

Jammu: The filing of an FIR against the army men involved in the killing of two youth in south Kashmir’s Shopian village failed to die down on Tuesday after ruling BJP members on Tuesday persisted over its demand of withdrawing the FIR against an Army major for killing of two youth in Shopian.

The BJP MLA from Akhnoor Rajiv Sharma raised a point of information during the discussion on grants for PHE, irrigation and flood control (I&FC) department.

“Deputy Speaker sahib, we have already demanded that FIR should be withdrawn and we want to know what government has done in this regard. We need clarity on it,” he said.

He questioned why government didn’t lodge an FIR against youth who were pelting stones on army vehicles  in Shoain.

“If FIR has been registered against army Major, then government should also register another FIR against stone pelters,” Sharma said.

His statement was apparently annoying for PDP while as opposition members tactfully asked parliamentary affairs minister, Abdul Rehman Veeri to answer the member.

“Veeri Sahab please respond to your member and inform the House as well. It is about credibility of CM, how can you withdraw an FIR which is registered against Army major,” NC MLA Altaf Kaloo told the minister.

Kaloo was joined by other opposition members, who joined the chorus in the House as BJP was singled-out on the issue.

As opposition parties were sharing gestures with the ruling PDP members in treasury benches, annoyed Veeri moved backwards annoyingly and asked BJP member to sit down.

“What has happened to you sit down on your chair,” Veeri asked Sharma.

Meanwhile, opposition members in smiling gestures told the House that BJP lawmaker might have got a call from Nagpur to raise this issue in the House.

“You don’t have 56 inch chest but only 6 inches,” Kaloo told BJP MLA Rajiv Sharma.
