Stay away from encounter sites, CM tells youth 

Jammu: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has urged the youth to stay away from the scene of encounter between security forces and militants. Meanwhile, a minor boy was injured after an unexploded shell went off near the encounter site in Chaigund Shopian.

Her appeal came after a youth died yesterday in clashes between security forces and protesters near a site of encounter in Chaigund village of Shopian district.

Expressing anguish, Mufti described the death of Shakir Mir as unfortunate.

Yesterday, the state assembly was rocked by anti- government slogans as the opposition National Conference and a few members of the Congress protested over the youth’s death. Meanwhile, a 10-year-old boy was injured seriously after a shell exploded near the encounter site at Chaigund area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Police sources said a group of people were clearing the debris of a house which was gutted following an encounter last evening.

As men were busy with the work a minor boy identified as Musharraf Ahmad arrived at the site and fiddled with an unexploded shell lying at the site. The shell exploded resulting in his serious injuries.

Police said that the minor was been rushed to a hospital in Pulwama, where doctors attended on him and later shifted him to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment.

Pertinently, an encounter took place Wednesday evening at Chaigund village where two militants and a civilian were killed while as two girls received injuries.
