Army resorts to aerial firing in Wanpoh

Anantnag: Army personnel restored to aerial firing in Wanpoh village of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district after youth pelted stones on an army convoy on the national highway.
Sources said that soon after the aerial firing police reached the spot, however they were also attacked with stones by youth which was retaliated with tear smoke shells triggering clashes.
Pertinently, a complete shutdown is being observed in whole south Kashmir along with other parts of valley following JRL’s shutdown call.
Meanwhile, a cordon and search operation was started by government forces in Walerhama Pahalgam village.
Official sources said that acting on a specific information 42 Rashtriya Rifles and Anantnag police started the search operation in the area.
Sources said that a large number of forces were deployed in the area and door to door search operation was conducted.
Meanwhile, locals in Midoora village of South Kashmir’s Tral area alleged vandalisation
of property by forces during a cordon-and search operation in the village on Saturday afternoon.
An eyewitness said that forces conducted door to door search operation in the Shah Mohalla of the area. He alleged that forces damaged property and thrashed the inmates in the village during the search operation.
Earlier, on specific inputs about the presence of militants, forces laid a siege to the area, said an official. Station House Officer, Awantipora Nazir Ahmed, said that there was a search operation launched in the area however, it ended peacefully.
He said that allegations of vandalisation of property or beating of villagers are baseless.
