Passengers suffer as railway station Qazigund lacks basic facilities

Kulgam: The absence of basic amenities including drinking water and lack of proper sanitation at Railway station Qazigund has come under severe criticism from commuters who allege that the authorities have made no arrangements to lessen the immense hardships faced by frequent travelers.

Hundreds of people traveling from different parts of the Valley via train visit the Qazigund railway station but the lack of basic facilities there contradict the tall claims of administration of providing better facilities to the passengers.

The railway station according to the travelers lacks facilities including drinking water, electricity and proper sanitation especially in the public convenience, which is defunct as well.

“The heaps of polythene and garbage could be seen near railway station but the authorities don’t bother to ensure proper sanitation there,” the locals said.

Moreover, the bathrooms and lavatories at railway station Qazigund are defunct causing inconvenience to thousands of people on daily basis.

The locals as well as the passengers said that the foul smell that comes from bathrooms irks them.

Ahmad-ul-llah, a local resident said that government schemes ‘Swachh Bharat’ and ‘Swachta hi Sewa’ proved hoax on the ground as the railway station here continues to remain filthy.

He said that they approached the higher ups several times but their promises proved hoax. “We time and again requested the concerned authorities to look into the matter so that the sufferings of people would come to an end,” they said.
