Mirwaiz placed under house arrest

Srinagar: Authorities again placed Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest in his Nigeen residence on Wednesday, sources said.

Contingents of police and paramilitary forces surrounded the Nigeen residence of Mirwaiz and told him that he has been placed under house arrest, the sources said.

Meanwhile,  Police on Wednesday arrested many Hurriyat Conference (G) activists ahead of a scheduled seminar, sources said.
Police arrested Syed Imtiyaz Hyder, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, Muhammad Yaseen Attai, Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Moulvi Bashir Ahmad and others and detained them at different police stations, they said.
Sources said that Hurriyat (G) is scheduled to hold a seminar on January 5 on the resolutions passed by the UNSC regarding Kashmir.

The arrests have been made ahead of the seminar.

Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani is under house arrest since 2010 in his Hyderpora residence. His close associate and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Secretary General, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai is also under house detention.
