Thousands converge at Hazratbal for congregational prayers

Srinagar: Thousands of people Friday converged at the Kashmir’s revered shrine of Hazratbal that houses the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on the Friday following Eid-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) to have a glimpse of the Holy relic.

While the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was observed on last Friday, the devotees in the Valley also observed Friday following Eid-e-Milad with religious zeal.

Notably, during the Rabi-ul-Awwal, the month in which Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was born, several seminars and Seerat Conference’s were organized across the Valley.

The Milad processions at various places were also carried out since last Friday.

The congregational prayers were held at various shrines and Masjid’s across the Valley while the main gathering was held at Hazratbal shrine here.

However, the historic Jamia Masjid, which usually witnesses a huge gathering on the Friday following of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) remained closed as the area was under restrictions to thwart protests called by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) against the US president, Donald Trump’s decision on Jerusalem.

Unlike other Friday following of Eid-e-Milad, the gathering at Hazratbal as per the locals was less than past years due to the restrictions imposed in Srinagar areas.

The devotees who thronged the shrine on this day said that the holy relic at the Hazratbal shrine, situated on the embankment of Dal Lake was displayed after every prayer.

The Islamic clerics threw light on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) during the Friday sermon.

The shrine, since the inception of Rab-ul-Awwal witnessed a huge rush of devotees from across the Valley.

Meanwhile, authorities had made special arrangements to facilitate movement of devotees to the shrine.

Official sources said that besides transport, arrangements of power, drinking water, medical aid camps and sanitation were made for the convenience of people.

To cater the heavy rush of devotees at the shrine, the traffic police had issued a route plan for traffic movement leading to the Hazratbal shrine.

They had also requested devotees to abide by the route plan.

Besides Hazratbal, the congregational prayers at various places including Khiram Sirhama Anantnag, Asarisharif Kalashpora, Jenab Sahab Soura, Pinjoora Shopian, Seer Hamadan, Kaba Marg Qaimoh and Aham Sharief Bandipora in north Kashmir were held in which  massive gathering was witnessed.
