Youth arrested after eluding police for nine years

Handwara: Police on Thursday arrested a youth from north Kashmir’s Handwara village after he was eluding arrest for almost nine years.

“The youth was wanted in a molestation case dating back to 2008 in Handwara town of Kupwara district. He was finally arrested on Thursday from his home,” police said.

The arrested youth identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Badana (28) son of Taj-u-din Badana of remote Hatchmarg village was nabbed from his home this afternoon following specific information about his presence there.

“Despite efforts, he averted arrest in a molestation case registered in police station Villgam in 2008. He was finally nabbed today,” Javid Ahmad Sheikh, SHO Villgam told Kashmir Wire.

A case under FIR (No 58/2008) under section 354 RPC stands registered against the accused.

After the accused spotted police team at his home, he hid himself in a wooden box but was eventually apprehended, a police official said.

“Following his arrest,  police produced challan in the molestation case against the accused  in a local court at Handwara,” he added. (Kashmir Wire)
